SHOW NOTES

Ken Berenger has lost everything twice... and rebuilt both times, not just financially but in how he understands success, identity, and faith. Now CEO of three companies, including Water on Demand, Ken spent three decades in Wall Street finance, corporate real estate, and mortgage restructuring before Superstorm Sandy took his home and business in a single day. In this conversation, he traces the arc from a young singer with a mullet who stumbled into a finance job he didn't understand, to a man who learned, the hard way, that self-worth and net worth are not the same thing.

Ken and Dr. Dan talk about the influence of his father, a Brooklyn ironworker who taught him what contentment actually looks like, and the emotional experience of performing CPR on him decades later. They discuss the discipline of showing up daily through prayer and gratitude even when nothing seems to be changing, the humility required to accept help rather than only give it, and how some of Ken's greatest life gifts arrived disguised as collapse. It's a candid, faith-forward conversation about rebuilding... not just a career, but a self.

Key Concepts

  1. The Gift of Desperation: The idea that having no other option can become the exact pressure that keeps you moving forward.

  2. Self-Worth vs. Net Worth: The tendency, especially common among men, to conflate personal value with income, productivity, or usefulness.

  3. Grace in Ordinary Moments: Noticing the small, everyday instances of beauty and connection rather than only recognizing grace in dramatic turning points.

  4. Prayer as a Form of Meditation: Using prayer not only to ask for things, but to process the day and create inner stillness.

GUEST BIO

Ken Berenger is the CEO of three companies and co-creator of Water on Demand, a platform building a new investable asset class around decentralized wastewater infrastructure. His career spans more than thirty years across public markets, private debt and equity, corporate finance, and real estate, including work helping distressed homeowners navigate the 2008 foreclosure crisis. Along the way, Ken lost everything twice... first on Wall Street, then again after Superstorm Sandy destroyed his home and business... and rebuilt both times through discipline, humility, and a deepening spiritual practice. Today he applies those same lessons in raising capital for ventures aimed at solving overlooked, foundational problems. When he's not running his companies, Ken spends his time with his wife, their three kids, and a 165-pound dog.
