Tiny Humans, Big Emotions with Alyssa Blask Campbell

Dr. Dan and Alyssa Blask Campbell (author; host of Voices of Your Village podcast) discuss children and their emotions today.  Dr. Dan highlights Alyssa’s new book Tiny Humans, Big Emotions: How to Navigate Tantrums, Meltdowns, and Defiance to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children which empowers parents and caregivers to guide children through their range of emotions and their expressions of them, laying the groundwork for a lifetime of emotional intelligence

Generations of children have been taught to shake it off, brush the dirt off their skinned knees, wipe away their tears, and carry on because they need to build grit and resilience. But they also learn to NOT express or deal with “big feelings.” Early childhood specialist Alyssa Blask Campbell encourages the expression of feelings—big and small—rather than tucking them away.

On this new episode, Dr. Dan and Alyssa discuss why we need to learn how to raise confident kids who feel comfortable in expressing their tears, anger, fears and fury. We need to raise emotionally intelligent children so that they can become emotionally intelligent adults.
